Edna M. Johnson, 92, Glenville

Funeral services for Edna M. Johnson, age 92, of Glenville, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 11:00 a.m. from Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home.
The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate. Burial will be at the London Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Edna died on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Edna M. Johnson was born July 30, 1911, to Louis J. and Josephine (Mudra) Belshan in London Township, Freeborn County. She was baptized on Nov. 25, 1962, and attended school in Myrtle. Edna was united in marriage to Raymond Johnson at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, Iowa. She was a member of Round Prairie Lutheran Church.
Edna and her husband operated the Johnson’s Grocery Store in London from 1935 until 1939. They then lived in Fairchild, Wis., until going to San Francisco in 1941. Edna worked at St. Luke’s Hospital there and then worked in the Kaiser Ship yards as a drill press operator until about 1945. They then lived in Nevada, the Austin area and, at the time of Ray’s death, lived on a farm near Lansing. After Ray’s death, Edna moved to Myrtle and then lived southwest of Glenville and for several years lived in Glenville, before moving to the Lutheran Retirement Home on Sept. 11, 2001. Edna loved to garden, working on genealogy, and spent many hours looking for Indian Artifacts of which she had a large collection. She enjoyed working at the Mrytle Museum.
Survivors include one brother-in-law, Donald Nelson of Glenville; sisters-in-law: Mabel Belshan of Austin, and Carmen Johnson of Austin;
nieces: Beverly (Elsworth) Walker of Austin, Arlene (Jack) Allison of Glenville, Judy Belshan of Solon Springs, Wis., and Fran Nelson of Northwood, Iowa; nephews: Darrel Nelson of Myrtle, David (LaVonne) Nelson of Glenville, Douglas (Janice) Belshan of Menagha, Minn., Larry (Mary) Nelson of Glenville, Lee Nelson of Northwood, Iowa, and Jan Belshan of St. Paul; and many grand-nieces and -nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Johnson, on April 20, 1961; brother, Jerome Belshan; sisters: Mary and husband Maynard Nelson, Helen and husband Nolan Lang, and Bessie Nelson; and nephews: Gordon Belshan, Dale Nelson, and special nephew, Jimmy Lang.
It was Edna’s wish that memorials go to the London Cemetery.
