The Albert Lea ninth-grade-and-under wrestling team finished second in the 2004 state dual meet tournament.

In the opener Albert Lea defeated Annandale/Maple Lake 63-12 and followed with a 45-24 win over Apple Valley and 53-15 over Wayzata, before falling 33-32 to Owatonna in the championship.

Qualifying for the state individual tournament were Cody Hansen at 95 pounds, Logan Kortan 100, Beau Hansen 112, Braden Reyerson 119, Nick Stadheim 130 and Brandon Mellang 135.

Also participating in the individual section tournament for Albert Lea were Isaac Johnson at 105 pounds, Nate Granahan 125, Josh Tyler 140, Tim Frazier 145, Darren Honeycutt 152, Joe Wurst 160, Jesse Paterson171, Trooper Gilbertson 189 and Derek Peterson 275.

Albert Lea finished the regular season with a dual meet record of 6-0. The locals defeated Jackson County Central 53-24, Adrian 46-30, St. James 64-21, Owatonna 40-30, Faribault 63-21 and Sibley East 70-10.
