Funeral services for John M. &uot;Jock&uot; Luney, 80, of Grand Forks, N.D., will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Forks, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation

is Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks and one hour prior to the service.

John died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

He was born in Transcona, Manitoba, Canada on Jan. 24, 1924, the son of William and Matilda (Clyde) Luney. He grew up in Canada, and served in the Royal Canadian Army during World War II.

John and Dorothy Stady were married on July 22, 1948, at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They moved to the United States following their marriage.

They lived in Albert Lea for 18 years, where their six children were born. John was very involved in the Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce, the Boy Scout program, First Presbyterian Church, and the Youth Hockey Program.

The Luney’s moved to Grand Forks when John had an opportunity to buy his own business, H.E. Everson Welding Supply Co. He worked there for 28 years.

John had a passion for hockey, and started the first artificial ice arena in Minnesota at Albert Lea. He was instrumental in starting high school hockey in Albert Lea, at a time when there were no high school hockey teams in southern Minnesota. He was an avid fan of the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux Hockey Team for more than 30 years.

John enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; their children, John (Bev) Luney of Honolulu, Hawaii, Dan (Sharon) Luney of

Grand Forks, North Dakota, Corinne (Jim) Satrom of Grand Forks, Ken (Lori) Luney, Grand Forks, Tom (Patti) Luney, Grand Forks, and Mary Jane (Scott) Thomsen, Brighton, Michigan; 11 grandchildren;

his sisters, Doreen

Dartnell and Edna Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and

Matilda;

brothers, Robert and William;

and a sister, Jenny.

Memorials may be designated to the American Heart Association.
