Last week was a busy one for the Albert Lea junior varsity boys’ basketball team.
The JV Tigers started Thursday with a tough Mankato East team coming to town.
The Tigers avenged an earlier loss this season by pulling out a 62-60 victory in overtime. The Tigers were led in scoring by Corey Dieser with 17 points, including five in overtime, and Brock Sorenson with 13.
On Saturday the Tigers traveled to play in the Blue Earth Invitational.
The Tigers played a scrappy Fairmont team
in the opener, prevailing 61-49. According to coach Max Jeffrey, the Tiger defense in the second half shut down Fairmont.
&uot;After being down three points at halftime, our defense clamped down and we outscored them 30-15 in the second half,&uot; said Jeffrey.
Leading the defensive effort were Ryan Truesdell, Preston Dahl, and Wade Kolling. Conner Keyeski led the Tigers with 20 points, including four three-pointers.
In the second game the Tigers defeated Blue Earth 64-55. The Tigers continued their hot shooting by making seven three-point shots.
&uot;We shot the ball well, here is no doubt about that,&uot; said Jeffrey. &uot;Give credit to Trent Miller for hauling down some big rebounds and the post play of Zach Marty and Travis Klatt.&uot;
The Tigers had three players in double figures with Sorenson scoring 19, Keyeski 17, and Marty 11.
The JV Tigers take their 5-1 record to Rochester Mayo this Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m. at Mayo High School.
