Maxine LaVon Dorman Schoenecker passed away peacefully, with family by her side on Jan. 6, 2004. She was 68 years old.
She was born In Albert Lea on Jan. 8, 1936, one of nine children born to Adolph and Ruth Dorman. She moved to Portland, Ore., in 1952 and attended Lincoln High School. In 1955 she married Ed Schoenecker. Together, they had six children and 48 years together, before Ed passed away in May 2003.
Raising her family was her most important job, but she still found time to work in the school cafeteria, coach sports, run the carpool, and attend PTA meetings. She worked various summer jobs to earn enough money for family vacations to Minnesota and California. When her grandchildren came along, her new hobbies included baby-sitting them and attending their school and athletic activities. Her idea of the perfect day would be to have her family gathered for a BBQ and swim in the backyard pool.
Maxine loved movies, reading, rafting, baking, and going to Reno, but she found the most joy spending time with her family.
She was preceded In death by her husband, Ed; and her daughter, Debbie (Gary) Deyerling in 1996.
She is survived by: Gary (Laura) Schoenecker, Donna (Ed) McClung, Larry (Ann) Schoenecker, Dora (Terry) Allie, and Helen (Peter) O’Grady. She will be especially missed by her grandchildren: Eddie, Shelby, Colby, Karen, Fawn, Megan, Erica, Matt, Lindsay, Rachel, Shannon, Molly, Bonnie, Alex, Jacob, Kayla and Collin. She had three great-grandchildren: Breana, Andrew and Layla. She is also survived by her brothers: Bob, Bill and Junior Dorman of Albert Lea, and Dale Dorman of Torrance, Calif.; and sister, Susie Beardon of Portland, Ore.
A memorial mass was held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, SE 12th & Pine, Portland, at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30.
Remembrances may be made to the church.
Arrangements entrusted to Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.
