Eight area wrestlers advance to Class A state tournament

Eight area high school wrestlers have qualified for the Minnesota state tournament Thursday-Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, four each from New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva and United South Central/Alden-Conger.
NRHEG, which has qualified for the Class A state tournament as a team, had three Section 2A champions and one runner-up. Finishing first in the section were Anders Mattson, 152 pounds; Nick Christenson, 171; and Matt Holland, 215. Kaleb Jacobson was second at 189.
USC/Alden-Conger had one Section 3A champion, Chance Carlson at 140. Taking second were Seth Amberg, 103; Kenny Sandt, 125; and Shaun Whelan, 152.
They wrestle in the opening round of the state tournament Thursday at 6 p.m.
