Esther (Mrs. William) Rasmussen, 88, Alden

Funeral services for Mrs. Wm. (Esther) Rasmussen, of Alden, will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden.
Visitation will be at Bruss-Heitner funeral home in Wells, on Monday, March 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.
Esther Rasmussen passed away on March 20, 2004, at the age of 88 years old.
She was born on March 7, 1916, to her parents Anton and Palma (Johnson) Wigern.
She spent her entire lifetime in and around the areas of Kiester and Alden.
On Sept. 10, 1938, she was married to Wm. Rasmussen
She was a member of the Danish Lutheran, and the Redeemer Lutheran Church after the merger where she attended and taught Sunday school for 12 years.
For many years she and her husband weaved rugs for families in the area. She and her husband owned and operated Ras’s Steak house in Alden for several years.
She also worked in several restaurants in the surrounding area and eventually retired from the Alden High School after serving fifteen years as the head cook.
Many people know her only as
&uot;the Lefse lady.&uot; She provided holiday Lefse to many families in the area. This will now truly remain what several of us already knew as a heavenly treat.
Three sons survive her: Vernon and Rosie of Albert Lea, Robert and Judi of Monticello,and Ken and Barb of Marshalltown, Iowa; four grandchildren: Tami (Mrs. Dan Bellrichard) Albert Lea, Sherri Rasmussen Long Island, N.Y.,
Lynne (Mrs. Brian O’Connel ) Minnetrista, and Mike Rasmussen Monticello,
four great-grandchildren Amber and Jason Bellrichard, and Brook and Baily Rasmussen; also three sisters and one brother: Elvira (Mrs. Hilbert Lahs), Albert Lea, Garnet (Mrs. Kenneth Rawjesky), Bowman, N.D., LeeAnn (Mrs. James Kronlocken), Eden Prarrie, Mr. Omer Wigern, Kiester; also several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, parents and one brother preceded her in death.
