Harold &uot;Duane&uot; Ranum, of Walters, age 60, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at his home in Walters of complications of cancer.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at United Lutheran Church, Walters. The Rev. Donald Rose will officiate. Visitation is
4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and one hour prior to services art the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Walters Cemetery, Walters.
He was born March 9, 1943, in Worth County, Iowa, the son of Ruth (Dagestad) and Harold Ranum. He married Patricia Thorson on Feb. 14, 1964, in Lake Mills Iowa
Duane attended school in Northwood Iowa, and Emmons. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany and Spain. When he and Patricia were first married they lived in Mason City, Iowa. They moved to Walters in 1965. He was a carpenter and worked for Kluender Farming and Borderline Siding & Roofing before starting his own business, Ranum Home Improvement in 1983. He worked up until November of 2003 when he was diagnosed with Cancer.
Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He had great memories of his elk and deer hunting trips out West. But most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Duane was currently serving as a councilman for the City of Walters. He was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Walters. He was also a member of the Wells Area Gun Club, NRA, Civic and Commerce of Kiester, and Eagles Club. He was a retired volunteer fireman for the City of Walters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Alexander Ranum; special aunt and uncle: Mary and Chris Larson; brother, John Ranum; and son, at birth, Chad Michael Ranum.
He is survived by wife, Patricia Ranum; sons: Troy Ranum and wife Marcia, Zane Ranum and special friend Tammie Peterson, Tony Ranum and Wife Heidi; daughter, Tonia Palmer and husband Darin; grandchildren: Corissa, Brandon and Colten Ranum; mother, Ruth Ranum of Lucasville, Ohio; sisters and brothers: Renee Montgomery and husband Danny of Lucasville, Ohio, Catherine Johnson and husband Dale of Pequot Lakes, Minn., David Ranum and wife Betty of Manly, Iowa, James Ranum and his wife Sue of Waukon, Iowa, Gary Ranum and wife Lisa of Osage, Iowa, Clarence Ranum and wife Renee of Conger, Mary Jo Williamson and husband Terry of Northwood, Iowa, Barbara Montgomery and husband Patrick of Lucasville, Ohio, Ila Jensen and husband Terry of Northwood, Iowa, Carol Lowe and husband Dave of La Crosse, Wis., and Michael Ranum of Foley, Ala.; sister-in-law, Carole of Foley,
Ala.; brother-in-law, Arlin and Pat Thorson of Lake Mills, Iowa; brother-in-law, Wayne and Judy Thorson of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Mary and Keith Farland of Forest City, Iowa;, and sister-in-law, Phyllis and Dennis Carnes of Muskogee,
Okla.
Duane is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many great friends.
He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
