Joan R. Cerny, age 60, formerly of Rockford, Ill., died at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Heritage Nursing Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was born March 17,1944, in Austin, the daughter of Joseph Cerny and Jeannette Van DeBrake Drucker. She ran the cafe at Rockford Bowling Center. She then cooked daily for 500 Cubans at Fort McCoy for one year. She worked as a food production manager in Food Service at University of Illinois Rockford School of Medicine. She was the owner/operator of Kwik Rite Catering in Rockford. She also worked in Fish Creek, Wis., at The White Gull Inn, The Pantry and The Coolery.
Survivors include her son, Randy (Tracy) Rayman of Walford, Iowa; daughter, Vicki Walker of Rochester; grandchildren, Aric, Spencer, Sara and Alex; mother, Jeannette Drucker of Austin; sisters, Janice (Tom) McPhilips of Poplar Grove, Ill.; Kay (Richard) Kanzenbach of Wells; Carol (James) Hester of Bellflower, Calif.; brothers, Robert (Diane) Cerny of Monticello, Iowa, and Adrian and Kris Cerny of Portland, Texas; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Joe Cerny; brother, Steven Cerny; and son, Steven Lucas.
Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 19, at Fred C. Olson Funeral Chapels, Ltd., Last Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Funeral service was at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 20,
at Casperson’s Funeral Home in Sister Bay, Wis. Private burial in Egg Harbor Cemetery in Egg Harbor, Wis.
