Religion column: Malarky about angels

Where did people ever get the idea
that when people die, they become angels?
Angels are angels.
Humans are humans.
Different beings.
Cross-over?
Metamorphosis?
From one to the other?
Why believe that?
Any evidence?
And where did the belief ever come from
That when Grandpa died
And went to heaven
That he could help
Here on earth?
We hear it!
“Grandpa’s looking after me now!”
“Grandpa helped me through it!”
“I pray to Grandpa!”
Obviously,
Folks must get some comfort
From such thoughts.
But are they reality?
Accurate?
True?
I hope Grandpa was an
Inspiration and encouragement
While here on earth.
And still is.
Who can overestimate that?
But while Grandpa was here on earth,
He was profoundly powerless
Over how his grandchildren
Lived their lives.
I think he has no more control now,
From heaven.
And, pray to Grandpa?
What kind of folly is that?
Have a little talk with him?
Sure!
But pray to him?
Ask for his help?
Who elevated him to the rank of God?
When we pray,
Why not go to the Top?
God himself!
Jesus!
Who can do something!
If we’ll let them!
Grandpa is not an angel!
Never was!
Never will be!
And the current angel craze!
The angel industry!
The angel philosophy!
“If one is good,
One hundred is better!”
Worn like fetishes!
Good luck charms!
“Christian” good luck charms!
“I always wear my angel pin!”
“I never go out without it!”
So?
Angels are legit!
Angel malarky isn’t!
It’s time to reread the Bible
About angels.
