Bernice Frances Skatter, 81, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Bernice F. Skatter, age 81, of Albert Lea, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Dr. Donald Mackay, retired minister, will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Friends and relatives may greet the family one hour prior to the services at Bayview. There will be no reviewal.
Bernice died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Thorne Crest Retirement North.
Bernice Frances Skatter was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Albert Lea. She was the daughter of Sophus and Lydia (Larson) Hanson. Bernice graduated from Albert Lea Senior High School in 1940, attended St. Olaf College for one year, and earned her R. N. Degree from Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis in 1944. Her nursing tenure included Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Naeve Hospital, St. John’s, and Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea.
Bernice was married to Alfred Skatter on Oct. 12, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She attended Faith Baptist Church in Albert Lea. Bernice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who always put others ahead of herself. She enjoyed taking walks outdoors, and would often bring leaves and wild flowers home to enjoy. Whether she was gardening, reading, or baking, she enjoyed and was thankful for the gift of God’s every creation.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred; sons: Paul and wife Cheryl of Albert Lea, and David and wife Debra of Bloomington; and granddaughters: Amy, Heather, and Jennifer.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, and uncles.
