James Marvin Somnis, 76, Alden

The funeral service for James Marvin Somnis, of 80 School St., Alden, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday April 8, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Conger, Minnesota. The Rev. Susan Wallager will officiate. Interment will be in Conger Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
Jim died Monday, April 5, 2004, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 76 years old.
Jim was born June 2, 1927, at Conger, to John Tony and Edith Mae (Reasoner) Somnis. He was a lifetime Conger resident. He married Delores Bussinger on June 13, 1948, at Northwood, Iowa. Jim belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church were he sang in the choir, ushered and was past president of the Church Council. Jim was a carpenter and worked for Sorenson Lumber Yard, Associated Lumber, UBC, Albert Lea Crating, and for many years for Rilco. He belonged to the Eagles, Elks and Moose Clubs. Jim enjoyed gardening, golfing, singing and wood working. He was a talented artist. Jim especially had a very good sense of humor. He also enjoyed helping out in his community.
Jim is survived by his wife, Delores (Dee) Somnis; four children: Linda Dickey and her husband Leon of Joplin, Mo., Coral Ringoen and her husband Richard of Albert Lea, Kathleen Somnis and her fiancee Jeff Brower of Minnetonka, Minn., and Theresa Boverhuis and her husband Russell of Bloomington, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Brenda Somnis, wife of Daniel, of Fairmont; 18 grand children: Russell Olson Jr., Ruby Olson, Nicole Cole, Jeremy Ringoen and his wife Christine, Treavor Ringoen, Timothy Somnis, Matthew Sherman, Anthony Boverhuis and his wife Kristi, Travis Boverhuis, Katherine Boverhuis, James Somnis, Crystal Somnis, Lottie Somnis, Tammy Somnis, Michael Somnis, April Somnis and Heather Somnis; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Tom Somnis and his wife Rosie of Tofte, Minn., and Roland Somnis and his wife Patricia of Conger; two sisters: Barbara Ganske and her husband Bill of Albert Lea, and Rosella Thompson of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Somnis; granddaughter, Danielle in infancy; brothers: Robert and John; sister, Grace in infancy; brother-in-law, Milt Thompson; and sister-in-law, Jean Somnis.
