Knights’ offense ignites at G-E

GLENVILLE &045; If the pitch was anywhere near the strike zone, the Alden-Conger Knights were hitting it.

The Knights banged out a season-high 16 hits while defeating Glenville-Emmons 12-7 in a nonconference softball game at Glenville Monday.

It was the second win in three games for the Knights, who fell to the host team and defeated Medford 19-0 in Saturday’s Lyle/Pacelli Invitational.

They carried the momentum into Monday, taking a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning and putting it away with three runs in the fifth and fourth in the sixth.

Kristin Faugstad led the Knights, going 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs and three stolen bases. Nicole Bute was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Angie Wichmann 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Steph Lackey 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Kendra Mathiason 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three stolen bases. Erin Bremseth and Heather Haukoos added two hits each.

Lackey pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run on four hits, with four walks and seven strikeouts. She hit three batters.

Jordan Claussen started and took the loss for the Wolverines. She allowed 12 runs and seven walks, hitting four. Lindsey Lorenzen pitched a 1-2-3 seventh, striking out two.

Amanda Epland was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and a sacrifice bunt to lead the G-E offense. Ellen Hansen and Mallory Paulsen also hit safely.

The Knights host United South Central Thursday while the Wolverines travel to LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow.
