NRHEG boys take 4th, girls 5th at Byron Invitational

BYRON &045; The NRHEG boys’ and girls’ track and field teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in Saturday’s Byron Invitational.

Pine Island won the boys’ division with 143 points. The Panthers had 69.5. Eleven teams competed.

Sonny Berg paced the Panthers, winning the 110 and 300-meter hurdles and taking second in the long jump. Geoff Stieglbauer was second in the triple jump. Brian Bos took third in the 800 and teamed with Tom Bartness, Tim Rysavy and Blake Kierkoff for third in the 4×400 relay. Jake Bushlack was fourth in the high jump.

&uot;Stieglbauer had a great day,&uot; said Panthers co-coach Mike Weber.

Byron topped 11 girls’ teams with 191 points. NRHEG, competing without leading scorer Alison Anderson, had 68 points.

Kalisha Anthony led the Panthers with second in the 100 hurdles and third in the pole vault and long jump. Jennifer Grunzke and Brittany Schwartz finished 2-3 in the discus. Karla Lewer was fourth in the 1600.

&uot;Anthony and Grunzke had a good day, and Lewer continues to be strong in the distance events,&uot; said co-coach Duey Ferber.

The Panthers travel to the JWP Invitational Thursday.
