Roger William Manteuffel, age 84, of O’Fallon, Ill., born May 29, 1919, in St.Paul, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Manteuffel was a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel who earned the Bronze Star and flew in the Berlin Air Lift. He was a member of American Legion Fischer-Sollis Post 137, Disabled American Veterans, past president 1979-1980 and member of O’Fallon Rotary International attaining the level of Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Manteuffel was also a member of the Scott Officers Club and a Eagle Scout.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William L. and Selma J. Manteuffel (nee Mattson); and a sister’ Dorothy St. Jacque.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Norene Manteuffel (nee Spotts) of O’Fallon; a son, William R. Manteuffel of Montana; a daughter, Dana and Stan Hanson of O’Fallon; a sister, Alyce York of Long Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren; Leisa and Jim Hanson-Rotramel of Washington, Mo., and Paul Kim Hanson of Suquamish, Wash.; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today, April 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, Ill.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Sellers officiating, Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
