Ruby G. Hewitt, 93, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Ruby G. Hewitt, age 93, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 9, at the Mansfield Lutheran Church. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate. Interment will be in the Mansfield Township Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Ruby died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Thorne Crest Retirement Home.

Ruby G. Hewitt was born April 28, 1910, to William and Eleanor (Risch) Hintz in Mansfield Township. She graduated from Alden High School in 1929 and attended Mankato Teachers College and taught in country schools. On Sept. 7, 1935, Ruby was united in marriage to Paul H. Hewitt in New Hampton, Iowa. She moved to California in 1945 where she was a teacher and a principal in several schools and returned to Minnesota in 1983. Ruby was a member of the Mansfield Lutheran Church and the Martha Circle, the California Retired Teachers Association, Administrators and Retired Principals, and the Albert Lea Area Retired Educators Association. She enjoyed playing bridge and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include granddaughter, Kimberly Hoagland; daughter-in-law, Betty Hewitt; nephew, Art Wipplinger; and nieces: Leona Roberts, and Delores and her husband Loren Steele.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Larry; sisters: Vera and Lillian; sisters-in-law: Clarine Miller and Alice Hintz; brothers: Ellsworth, Arthur and Melvin; and grandson-in-law, Darren Hoagland.
