Both teams had three hits.
The difference was Rochester John Marshall had no errors.
Two errors on one play by the Albert Lea High School softball team allowed visiting John Marshall to score the game’s only run as the Tigers lost 1-0 Tuesday at Hammer Field.
&uot;We played well defensively, except for that one play,&uot; said Albert Lea coach Rick Harves. &uot;We just struggled with the bats.&uot;
The Tigers’ best scoring chance came in the first inning, when a pair of hit batters and a single loaded the bases with one out, but the next two batters hit fly balls to the outfield.
&uot;That was our only real threat,&uot; said Harves.
Katie Brackey was 2-for-3 for the Tigers. Nicole Rafdal had the other hit.
Rafdal pitched all seven innings, giving up one walk while striking out four.
&uot;She pitched a nice game,&uot; said Harves. &uot;Our mistakes put us in a bind a couple times, and she did a nice job keeping the ball down to get ground balls.&uot;
The Tigers, 0-7 in the Big Nine and 2-7 overall, host Faribault in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday.
