Verne Francis Bergeson, 71, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Verne Francis Bergeson, of Bancroft Estates, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at Cross Of Glory Lutheran Church, Hartland. The Rev. Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be at Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church. Military Honors will be accorded.

Verne died Friday, April 23, 2004, at the Veteran’s Hospital, Minneapolis. He was 71 years old.

Verne was born April 5, 1933, in Albert Lea, to Henry and Gladys (Gay) Bergeson. He was an Albert Lea and Hartland area resident. Verne was married to Bonnie Olson on March 20, 1954. Verne was a member of Cross Of Glory Lutheran Church of Hartland. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bradford during the Korean Conflict around 1949. Verne was a member of the Albert Lea Police Department for 13 years and worked as police officer, detective and juvenile officer. He also worked as parts manager for Allis Chalmers at Hartland. Verne enjoyed fishing, sightseeing, cooking, playing scrabble, cards and socializing with his friends. He also volunteered a lot, was past president of the Fountain Lake Sportsmen Club, was awarded the Legionnaire of the Year for 2003 from the American Legion. Verne was active in the Wild Game Cook Off and was an EMT while in Tennessee.

Verne is survived by his three children: Ranae Stiernagle of Rochester, Tom Bergeson and his wife Laurie of Kenyon, Minn. and Brenda Eckart and her husband Zac of Hayward; grandchildren: Melissa, Daniel and Jennifer Stiernagle, and Ashley and Brittany Bergeson; great-grandchildren: Jasmine and Alexis Stiernagle; sister, Delores Bonesteel of Montana; and special friend, Rose Perteet of Albert Lea.

Verne was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gladys; wife, Bonnie; and brother, Roger.
