Wolverines take title at NRHEG

NEW RICHLAND &045; The Glenville-Emmons baseball team kept its unbeaten record intact Saturday, winning the Panther Invitational at New Richland.

The Wolverines, 7-0, opened with a 4-1 victory over Kasson-Mantorville. They shut out the host team 2-0 in the title game.

hitting in both games. It was a good day.&uot;

Alex Hansen pitched a three-hitter in game one, striking out five and walking two while giving up no earned runs.

Wade Flattum was 2-for-3, Michael Greibrok 2-for-4 with an RBI, Alex Hansen 1-for-3 and Mike Yocom 1-for-2.

The Panthers beat NRHEG despite getting only one hit, a leadoff double in the second inning by Yocom. He was sacrificed to third and scored on an error.

The Wolverines added an insurance run

in the fourth, when Greibrok walked, stole second, took third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Robert Flugum.

Devan Kaasa pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win, allowing three hits and three walks, with two strikeouts. Greibrok got the final out for a save.

Seth Stadheim had the defensive play of the game, going to the fence to snare a fly ball by Joey Balfe with a runner on in the sixth. The Panthers went on to load the bases with a single and a walk, but Greibrok got the third out on a comebacker to the mound.

The Wolverines return to conference play today at Spring Grove.
