Duane Dewey Wolden, Albert Lea, 74

Duane &uot;Dewey&uot; Wolden was born on Jan. 16, 1930, in Albert Lea, the son of John K. and Heidi (Henke) Wolden.

He grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1948. He entered the United States Navy and served at a weatherman being stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, for four years. After being discharged he attended St. Cloud State University. He met and married Mary Ellen (Peggie) Lodermeier on Sept. 1, 1955, in Royalton, Minn., and to this union four children were born. He graduated from St. Cloud with a teaching degree and went on to Michigan State to complete his masters degree. They moved to Amery, Wis., in 1958 where he taught biology and science for 32 years, retiring in 1990. He coached several athletic teams, and was a basketball referee for many years. He enjoyed his family, outdoors and sports.

He was an avid golfer and tennis player. He also loved gardening and was a master with hosta.

He loved hiking and always had his eye open for agates. He was also a shrewd card player. He served on the DD Kennedy Board, Friends of the Library, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for many years. He also was active in Amery s summer recreation program and West Cap.

Dewey died at his home on Monday morning, May 3, 2004, at the age of 74 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John of Washington, and sister, Margaret (Ted) Hanson of Albert Lea.

Left to mourn are his wife, Peggie; children: Kim (Jan) Schock, Heidi (Kevin) Maupin, Scott (Kelly) Wolden and Gretchen (Wes) Bader; brother, Harry &uot;Butch&uot; Wolden; and grandchildren: Kiel Schock, Ryan Schock and Grace Schock, Ali (Mike) Jarosch, Courtney Maupin, Erick Wolden, Ashley Wolden and Justine Wolden. He also leaves five nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Williamson Funeral Home in Amery, Wis. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 6, at 10:30 am at First Lutheran Church in Amery, with Rev. Marion Adams officiating. Soloist will be Diane Lundgren. Organist will be Julie Selle. Casket bearers will be Jim Schmidt, Dave Myers, Jerry Ahlin, Sherm Gronlund, Bob Gay, Gene Johnson, Dave Bienaisz, Marv Nevala, Clint Gjerde, Henry Yetter and Lyle Sauve.
