Perfection remained elusive for Rick Osterman.
But he finally reached the 800 mark.
Osterman, an Albert Lea bowler, came within two strikes of a 300 game but went on to finish with a career-high series of 811 during recent Trades and Labor League competition at Holiday Lanes.
Osterman admitted it was tough to finish so close to his first 300 game and fall short, something that happened in 2001 when he rolled a 298 game as part of his previous-best 709 series, the only time he topped 700.
“I was a little disappointed the first game when I started with 10 in a row and didn’t finish the last two,” said Osterman. “But when the ball kept rolling into the pocket the next two games, it was very exciting to get closer and closer to 800 and then make it.”
A bowler for 25 years, Osterman averaged around 189 pins per game while competing in one league at Holiday Lanes this season. He has averaged between 185 and 190 the last six years.
