Paul Elsworth Oftedahl, 79, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Paul Ellsworth Oftedahl, of Albert Lea, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 24, at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by the Albert Lea Veteran’s Organizations.

Paul died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 79 years old.

Paul was born in Albert Lea on May 4, 1925, the son of Ben J. and Bertha (Bakke) Oftedahl. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1943. He served in the Army during World War II. After his discharge from the Army he attended Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City, Iowa. He was married to Lavonne Hovland on Aug. 4, 1946. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Paul was employed with Wilson & Co. where he managed the Lamb & Veal department. He also worked in sales for Sears Co. in Albert Lea and Owatonna. After retirement he worked part time at Streaters as a mailman. He was a past Commander of the American Legion and was a member of the Elks Club.

Paul enjoyed golfing, fishing, crossword puzzles and visiting with people. He especially enjoyed the time he could spend with his granddaughters.

Paul is survived by his wife, Lavonne of Albert Lea; son: Stefan and wife Jaymee Oftedahl of Albert Lea and their daughter, Brianna; son: Paul Eric and wife Kathy Oftedahl of Decorah, Iowa, and their daughter, Kalea; sister, Karen Shreiner of Sun City, Ariz.; sister, Helen and husband Ralph Hoeper of Albert Lea; brother, Duane and wife Carla Oftedahl of Sun City, Ariz.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Boyd.
