Richard Walter Wacholz, 68, Stewartville

Funeral services for Richard Walter Wacholz, age 68, of 1809 Clubhouse Drive, N.E., Stewartville, will be 1 p.m. today, May 2, at Zion Lutheran Church,. Stewartville, The Rev. Ron Allen will officiate. Visitation was noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Geneva Cemetery, Geneva.

He died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in the Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, of a heart attack,

He was born Oct. 6, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., and married Judith Marie Holm on April 5, 1959, in Geneva.

He moved a child with his family to the Mansfield/Kiester area and graduated from Kiester High School in 1953. In 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1956. He attended Mankato State University in 1957 and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Phychology and Sociology. Following his graduation he was employed by International Multifoods and worked for them in Iowa, Indiana and Nebraska for 17 years in agri-business sales and management before moving to Minneapolis in 1973. The Waholzs moved to Geneva in 1978 where Mr. Wacholz was co-owner and manager of Geneva Feeds. In 1982 he went to work for Big Gain Inc. in sales and five years as manager of Ag Specialties in St. Charles. The Wacholzs moved to Stewartville and Mr. Wacholz retired in 2000. After retiring, he worked part time at Rochester International Airport in security and as a driver for R & S Transport in Rochester.

Mrs. Wacholz worked at Hunt Hallmark for 13 years and is currently employed in security at Rochester International airport.

Mr. Wacholz was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on many boards and committees at all the churches the Wacholzs attended over the years. He was a member of the Stewartville American Legion and Stewartville Lions. He enjoyed fishing, hunting golf and cards.

Survivors include his wife, Judith of Stewartville; three sons: Wade (Shawn) of Eden Prairie, Joel (Pamela) of North Mankato, and Dean of New Ulm; one daughter, Amme (John) Houseman of Marshall; six grandchildren: Maren Wacholz, Jessica Wacholz, Jamie Wacholz, Abigail Wacholz, Anna Wacholz, and Eli Houseman; and three sisters: Lolene Mikolajczyk of Tempe, Ariz., Barbara (Richard) Stenzel of Alden, and Myrna Sens of Rosemount.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
