ST. PAUL &045; State Rep. Dan Dorman (R-Albert Lea) today formally announced that he will run for reelection to the Minnesota House of Representatives in House District 27A, representing constituents in Freeborn County. The three-term representative was first elected to the House in 1998.
Dorman said he’s running again because he wants to continue his efforts to boost economic development in Freeborn County and other rural communities. He is a strong advocate of the state JOBZ program which is creating new jobs at a pork processing plant here.
Dorman also worked to bring more equity to Local Government Aid (LGA) and property tax programs that too often benefit suburban cities over rural communities. He also wants to work to ensure that state agricultural policies allow farmers to grow and expand. Dorman has been a leading advocate for state ethanol programs, including legislation to require that gasoline sold in the state contain ethanol.
&uot;First and foremost, I want to legislate with the best interests of Freeborn County in mind,&uot; Dorman said. &uot;It’s essential that families here and families in other rural areas of the state have a strong voice at the Legislature.&uot;
Dorman serves on these House Committees: Commerce, Jobs and Economic Development; Economic Development and Tourism Division; Jobs and Economic Development Finance (Vice Chair); and Taxes.
Rep. Dorman lives with this wife, Mary Jo, and their two children in Albert Lea. He is a graduate of Albert Lea High School and he earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota.
