Fremont A. (Butch) Fredrickson was born, the third child, to Fred and Amanda (Olson) Fredrickson Sept. 1, 1920, in Gordonsville. He attended eight grades at the Gordonsville school and was confirmed Lutheran in Northwood, Iowa. Fremont worked for local farmers when he was young, and later learned the carpenter trade from his brother, Norman. They built some homes together, and later he went out on his own. Fremont served two years in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific as an airplane mechanic during World War II. He married Norma Bergland in 1947. When they divorced in 1962, Fremont became a single parent and raised their four children: Dennis and his wife Sandra Fredrickson, Donald and his wife Rebecca Fredrickson, Sonia and her husband David Willaby, all of Glenville, and Brian Fredrickson of Albert Lea. He was constable in Glenville for two years.
In 1974, Fremont married Virginia (Peg) Frutiger Stucky. They were married 15 plus years. He had four stepchildren: Brenda and her husband David Strenge of Ellendale, Scott and his wife Sandy Stucky of Northwood, Andrea and her husband Kurt Nelson of Crystal, Minn., and Craig Stucky of Albert Lea.
Fremont had a stroke in 1999 and decided to move in with his son, Brian, at Brian’s Elder Care in Albert Lea. He enjoyed reading the Bible and magazines and watching television. Fremont had his first bout with cancer in 2000, and fought it the rest of his life. He was often frustrated by not being able to talk after throat cancer, but appreciated the assistance given by all the caregivers at Brian’s Elder Care.
Survivors include his four children; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; four step children; 10 step grandchildren; and nephews: Paul Fredrickson and David Fredrickson.
Fremont was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman; sister-in-law, Loretta; niece, Judy Smith; sister, Melva; and one step grandson, Justin.
He was a hardworking father whose love and smile will be greatly missed.
