Ingeborg Jannette Rugroden, 90, Waseca

Funeral services for Ingeborg Jannette Rugroden will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the St Olaf Cemetery, New Richland.

Ingeborg died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the Waseca Medical Center in Waseca. She was 90 years of age.

Ingeborg was born on Friday, Jan. 30, 1914, to Oscar and Clara (Knudson) Rugroden at their home near New Richland. She was baptized in Norwegian on Feb 22, 1914, by Rev.O.A. Melby at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. She was confirmed at Trinity on May 27, 1928, by Rev.J.C. Walledom.

Ingeborg attended rural School District 42 through eighth grade and graduated from New Richland High School in 1932. She took normal training in New Richland and graduated on June 2, 1933. Later she attended Mankato State University, obtaining a two year degree in 1953 and a Bachelor of Science degree in 1959.

She taught in rural schools until 1959. She was then hired by the Waseca School District and taught second and third grades at Hartley Elementary School until her retirement in 1982. She was Waseca Public School Teacher of the Year in 1978 and received many other commendations as a teacher and after her retirement.

Ingeborg was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of New Richland, ALCW, and Circle 5. She was a member of Waseca Area Retired Educators, Delta Kappa Gamma (since 1964), New Richland Care Center Auxiliary, New Richland American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of Norway. She was a driver for Meals on Wheels and did Telecare volunteering.

Ingeborg enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, embroidery, and helping the quilters at Trinity Church. She collected spoons, bells, dolls, books, and lots of Beanie Babies.

She is survived by three sisters: Viola Nolte of Fairmont, Alice Gulbrandson of Albert Lea, and Lorraine Nelson of New Richland; one brother, George (LaVonne) Rugroden of Albert Lea; six nieces; 10 nephews; many great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews; and special friend, her dog, Abbie.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1966; mother in 1978; a brother, Milford Rugroden; three brothers-in-law: Esgar Nolte, Howard Gulbrandson and Gene Nelson; one sister-in-law, Ruth Rugroden; one great-great-nephew, Anthony (Tony) Rugroden; and Samantha, her very favorite dog. Samantha had been a retirement gift from her fellow teachers at Hartley Elementary School.

Ingeborg will be sadly missed by her family and friends. We had her in our lives for 90 years, but that was not long enough.
