Bulldogs claim outright NIC title, improve to 33-4

LAKE MILLS, Iowa &045; Mindy Bjelland made sure the Osage Blue Devils did not have a chance to score.
Her teammates did the rest.
Bjelland pitched a perfect game &045; 21 up, 21 down &045; and the Bulldogs scored three runs in the fourth inning to defeat Osage 3-0 and clinch the outright North Iowa Conference softball title.
It’s the third NIC crown for coach Jim Boehmer and the Bulldogs, who also won it in 1997 and 1999.
Bjelland, 21-1 for the season, struck out three at Osage.
Naomi Pederson had two of Lake Mills’ six hits. Stacie Gaskill doubled.
The Bulldogs went on to defeat Nora Springs-Rock Falls 6-0 to improve to 33-4 overall with their 32nd consecutive win.
Megan Pederson pitched a one-hitter, striking out 13 and walking two.
Jaci Grotewold had two hits and four RBIs. Gaskill also had two hits. Cristy Nelson and Naomi Pederson contributed one hit each.
