Forrest “Lynn” Hurst, age 93, died at Marantha Care Center in Brooklyn Park, Minn., on Saturday, June 19, 2004.
He was born in Glenwood, Minn., on Oct. 17, 1910.
Funeral services were held in Roseville, Minn., at Centennial United Methodist Church on June 30, 2004. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Highway 65 South, in Albert Lea, beside his wife of 57 years, Ada (Moore) Hurst. She preceded him in death on November 16, 1996, seven years after a second stroke. Ada had grown up on a farm north of Albert Lea, and Lynn had gone into a dairy partnership with her father, Samuel L. Moore for five years, until early 1946. Lynn, who grew up on a farm in Glenwood, and Ada had met at the University of Minnesota and were married on June 18, 1939. They lived in Blooming Prairie where Lynn taught agriculture until 1941, prior to moving to the Moore farm in Albert Lea.
On Feb. 26, 1946, Ada and Lynn, and their three children, Janet, Joy and Ray, moved to a farm of their own, one mile south of the railroad tracks on South Broadway. Lynn continued working as a dairy farmer for many years. Starting in the 1950s, he also worked as the assessor for Albert Lea Township for 14 years. In September 1970, Lynn and his wife Ada moved to Lantana, Fla., for health reasons, since she needed to miss the cold winters of Minnesota. Lynn then served as assessor for West Palm Beach County for four years, prior to retirement. In 1980, the South Broadway farmland was sold. In December 1999, Lynn moved back to Minnesota from Florida, to an assisted living facility in St. Anthony, Minn., to be closer to his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet and husband Bruce Baker of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter, Joy and husband Dennis Stierlen of Champlin, Minn.; son. Ray and wife Betty Hurst of Eau Claire, Wis.; his grandchildren; Barbara Baker Bergman, Brenda and Brian Baker, and Becky Baker Hinze of Salt Lake City, Sandra Stierlen Douglas and Jeff Stierlen, and C.J. Hurst and Tony Hurst; and eight great-grandchildren.
Lynn will be missed by his family and friends.
