James Leonard Nelson, 86, Albert Lea

The funeral service for James Leonard Nelson, of Albert Lea, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. The Rev. Mark Wendland and Vicar Korey Finstad will officiate. Interment will be in
Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services the funeral home.
James died on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Brian’s Elder Care in Albert Lea. He was 86.
James was born on April 21, 1918, in Geneva, the son of Jens and Elizabeth Nelson.
He married Gladys Lund on July 20,1941.
In his earlier years he farmed and showed horses. James had worked at Wilson’s until retiring in 1953. In later years he mowed lawns and volunteered his handyman services to anyone needing help. Some of his favorite things included camping, and going out to eat, and having coffee with his friends.
He is survived by one son, Tom Nelson and his wife Sharon of Albert Lea; four grandchildren: Jennie Beek (Dan) of Florida, Jamie Novak (Barb) of California, Rebecca Nelson of California, and Theresa Nelson of Duluth; seven great-grandchildren: Alicia, Caressa, Tyrsa, Nolan, Crystal, Shawn and Sara; sister-in-law, Alene Lund of Tullahoma, Tenn.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys, in 1991; son, Dennis; two great-grandsons; five sisters: Johanna, June, Henrietta, Leona and Isabella; and three brothers: Siger, Ray and Iner.
