John Leo Stanek, 69, Fond du Lac, Wis.

John Leo Stanek, age 69, of Fond du Lac, Wis., passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a railway accident on Thursday, July 8, 2004, in Maputo, Mozambique, Africa. Mr. Stanek had been working on a railroad reconstruction project in Africa for the past three years at the time of the accident.
Mr. Stanek was highly respected both personally and professionally for his dedication, talent, and fairness in all matters. He will be dearly missed by the many people whose life he touched.
Mr. Stanek is survived by his mother, Arcley Johnson of Northwood Iowa; his sisters: Mary Warren of Sylmar Calif., and Barbra Halland of Duluth; his three children: Wendy Griffin, Phyllis Stanek of Atlanta Ga., and Jake Stanek and his wife Jana Stanek of Freedom, Wis.; and his four grandchildren: Keith Griffin, Sarah Mastre, Courtney Griffin and Reagan Stanek.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, Iowa, with Rev. Wendi Gillan officiating. Interment will be in the State Line Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
