Margaret A. Cantwell, age 92, of Waseca, died on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at the Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home in Waseca.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 5, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with The Rev. John Kunz officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Waterville following services.
Visitation will be held on Monday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Arrangements are being completed by McRaith Funeral Home of Waseca.
Margaret Ann was born on June 29, 1912 to William H. and Grace A. (McShane) Cantwell in Morristown. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1931. She went on to attend Mankato Teachers College, graduating in 1936. Margaret earned her master’s degree from Mankato State University in 1961. Margaret’s career in education included Waseca County and Rice County Country Schools, Minnesota Lake Public School, Nicollet Public School, Montgomery Public School, and Waseca Public Schools.
She retired from teaching in 1977. Margaret was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, and its St. Ann’s Circle. Over the years she had been an active member of the Monday Study Club, and the Hospital Auxiliary. Margaret was active in various associations for retired educators, including the Waseca Area Retired Educators (W.A.R.E.), the Southeastern Retired Educators Association of Minnesota (S.E.R.E.A.M.) and the Retired Educators Association of Minnesota (R.E.A.M.). She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International since 1965. Margaret was also the recipient of the Pioneer Educator Award given by W.A.R.E.
She is survived by one sister, Veronica Lynch of Richfield; by one niece, Kay Lynch of Bloomington; and by two nephews: Jerry (and Linda) Lynch of Columbia Heights, Tom (and Sue) Lynch of Cottage Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by one brother, William J. Cantwell; and by one sister, Mary Donovan.
