Eugene Louis Sullivan of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
He was born on May 20, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Louis and Gertrude (Donahue) Sullivan. In 1927 the family moved to a farm near Twin Lakes. Eugene attended school in Twin Lakes and Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, stationed in England and France. He worked for many years for Viggo Jensen Contracting Co. of Albert Lea, and worked for the company for many years in Iowa as superintendent on several large jobs.
In 1948 Eugene was married to Dorothy Dombroske.
He is survived by two daughters, Jeannie (Tom) Eichler, and Annette (Brian) O’Harra, both
of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren: Kim Eichler of Lawrence, Kan., Kelly (Bryan) Romig of
Des Moines, Iowa., and Patrick (Liz) O’Harra of Dayton, Wyo. two great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Alexander Romig; and two step-daughters: Sandy (Dick) Heilman of Albert Lea, and Pat Gilbert. Also surviving are one brother, John Sullivan of Albert Lea; two sisters: Maxine (Art) Pricco of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Virginia (Duane) Stenseth of Albert Lea; sisters-in-law: Eve (Malcolm) Ernest of Albert Lea, and DonnaRae (Keno) Knutson, also of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy; parents: Louis and Gertrude Sullivan; brothers: Paul and Robert Sullivan: sisters and brothers-in-law: Lois and Glenn Zeimer, and Helen and Arnold Moen; and sister-in-law, Joann Sullivan.
A private family service was held in Iowa City, and his wishes were to have his body donated for science.
