Vernie K. Clementson

Vernie K. Clementson, age 93, formerly of Bricelyn, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died
Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea of complications of heart failure.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn. Officiating clergy will be Rev. Ed Nieman and Rev. Patricia Hinkie . Visitation will be held at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 31, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Interment will be at the Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery in rural Bricelyn.
Vernie was born on July 10, 1911 in Zumbrota, Minn., the son of Cornelius and Vina (Hoff) Clementson.
He received his education from the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota. He married Muriel Bassett on May 25, 1934, in St. Paul. Following her death in
1977, Vernie married Mildred (Madison) Peterson on June 19, 1979, at Bricelyn Lutheran Church. They had 26 good years of marriage. Vernie was a farmer all of his life. He was active in the Bricelyn Lutheran Church and served several terms at both trustee and deacon. He was on the call committee five times. He was on the Bricelyn Canning Company Board of Directors for nine years. He loved playing cards and enjoyed his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Clementson of Lake Mills, Iowa; son, Gerald and wife Janice Clementson of Owatonna; step-daughter, Mary Starzynski and husband Dan of Spring Grove, Ill.; three grandchildren: Jody Edel of Grand Rapids, Mich., Judy Love and husband Dave of Red Wing, and Jeanne Gaffney and husband Tim of Birmingham, Mich.; step-grandchildren: Steven Starzynski of Chicago, Ill., and Scott Starzynski of Champagne, Ill.; and eight great-grandchildren: Jessica, Lisa and Calvin Edel, Lauren, Leah and Andrea LaFond, and Zoe and Thomas Gaffney
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Muriel, in 1977; two brothers; one sister; and one grandson, Jay.
