Betty Lou Herfindahl, 75

The Memorial service for Betty Lou Herfindahl will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. Paul Aldrich will officiate. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Albert Lea.

Betty died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004 at the Austin Medical Center. She was 75 years old.

Betty was born in Hartley, Iowa, on July 17, 1929, the daughter of Henry and Sadie (Ihnen) Morfitt. She graduated from Worthington High School and from the School of Cosmetology in Fairmont. She grew up in Worthington and also lived in Clarissa, Albert Lea and Austin. Betty was married to Andrew Janssen, who preceded her in death, and later was married to Sig Herfindahl, who also preceded her in death.

Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Worthington. Betty owned and operated her own beauty shop in Manchester and Albert Lea.

She was a volunteer for RSVP and the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, who enjoyed camping and was an avid reader.

Betty is survived by step-children, Dick Herfindahl and wife Jean Herfindahl of Albert Lea, Judy and husband Mike Gordon of Albert Lea; five step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother Derald Morfitt (Bonnie) of Albert Lea; a sister, Mildred Morfitt of Austin;

brothers-in-law Elden Ponto of Worthington, Alfred Schlarbaum of Albert Lea, and Melvin Janssen (Margaret) of Bigelow;

a niece Margie (Jim) Field of Newton, AL; friends Janice Slack of Oakland, and Arnie and Jean DeBoer of Austin; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands Andrew Janssen and Sig Herfindahl; and sisters Mary Ann Ponto and Joyce Schlarbaum.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the two pastors at First Lutheran Church, Blooming Prairie.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Albert Lea or Prairie Manor Nursing Home of Blooming Prairie.
