This special Take a Bow had to be written in appreciation of all the heroes who worked through this week’s record rainfall.

Our thoughts focused on:

The insurance office personnel who probably answered more phone calls Wednesday than they do in a week.

Postal workers, paper carriers and other delivery people were also high on our list, given the number of roads closed because of flooding.

Law enforcement officers, dispatchers and secretaries who fielded calls from a worried public.

Landlords, neighbors and friends who rolled up their sleeves to push water out the door of a flooded home, or who helped secure boats to docks.

City workers who worked diligently to set up barriers and pumps to clear community boulevards of water.

– The plumbers who ran themselves ragged beginning Tuesday night when calls of flooding started until late Wednesday night.

– The Salvation Army, who opened their doors to people with flooding and no place to go.

Local businesses who donated materials or time to help people with water in their homes.

Most importantly, residents of Albert Lea should take a bow for their display of patience during a difficult couple days.

The brave souls who suffered the rain to get out and vote during Tuesday’s Primary election.
