ALHS grad joins Minnesota State-Mankato hall of fame

MANKATO &045; Albert lea High School graduate Jeri (Domes) Porter was inducted to the Minnesota State-Mankato Athletic Hall of Fame Sept. 11.

A 1981 ALHS graduate, Porter was a two-time NCAA All-American and one time AIAW All-American in track and field at Minnesota State. In 1983 and 1984 she finished fourth in the national 100 meters. She was named the North Central Conference’s Most Outstanding Athletic after winning the 55 meters, 300 meters and long jump at the 1984 conference meet. She also claimed the long jump, 100 and 200 titles at the 1984 NCC outdoor meet and was a member of the winning 400 relay team. She established league records in 100 with an 11.8 clocking and 200 record with a 24.50 mark. At one time she held the MSU indoor records for 55 meters (6.9), 300 yards (36.3) and 300 meters (40.38) and outdoor marks in 100 meters (11.51) and 200 meters (23.98).

In 1980 at ALHS, Porter set school records in the 100 (12.1) 200 (25.2) and in the 400 relay (49.6) with teammates Mary Kortz, Stacey Guildner and Ronalee VanderWaal.

Porter served as an assistant coach for the ALHS girls’ track and field team in the late 1990s.

Porter and her husband, Darris, live in Rosemount and have three children, Jasey, Danika and Dylan. Jasey attends St. Catherine College in St. Paul and is a member of the hockey team.

Porter is presently teaching early childhood special education in Shakopee.

Porter’s parents are John and Joleen Domes of Albert Lea.
