George E. Simon, age 75, of rural Owatonna, died on Oct. 11, 2004, at the Owatonna Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial is set for Wednesday Oct. 13, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Litomysl, Somerset Township, Steele County, with Rev. Peter Klein officiating the morning service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Military Rites by Steele County Funeral Unit and the Air Force Honor Guard. The visitation will be today, Oct. 12,

from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brick-Meger Funeral Home 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna. There will be a 4 p.m. parish rosary at the funeral home today. The visitation will continue one hour before the time of service, at the church, on Wednesday.

George was born on Feb. 21, 1929, in rural Steele County to Sidney and Mary (Schiller) Simon. George attended country school in Somerset Township. George enlisted in the Army during the Korean War in the infantry unit, serving from 1951-1953. He married Alice Hornstein on June 2, 1954, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Litomysl. The couple raised eight children. George farmed south of Owatonna until 1963, George worked at Owatonna Manufacturing until he retired in 1991. George’s life interests were playing cribbage, scrabble, and enjoyed his visits to the casinos. George played in a pool league an Tuesday nights for the West End. He enjoyed deer hunting in the fall and watching the Twins and Vikings play. George was a member of the V.F.W. of Owatonna and Holy Trinity Church at Litomysl..

George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alice; four sons: Gene (Janet) Simon, and Dennis (Michelle) Simon, both of Owatonna, Greg (Gail) Simon of Tennessee, and Tom (Andrea) Simon of Albert Lea; four daughters: Julie Doyle of Owatonna, Susan Simon of Ellendale, Sharon Simon of Owatonna, and Mary Simmons of Owatonna; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jerome Simon of Ellendale, and Edward (Eilyne) Simon of Owatonna; sisters: Roselyn (Jerry) Rysavy, Mary Starman, and Janet (David) Miller, all of Owatonna,

George is preceded in death by parents; granddaughter, Becky Simon, in 1984; and grandson, Brandon Doyle, in 1990.

Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
