Robert &uot;Blackie&uot; Duane Holmseth, age 73, of Bricelyn died Thursday, Oct.
28, 2004, at his birth home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, at South Blue Earth Lutheran Church in Seely Township, Faribault County. The Revs. Ed Nieman and Patricia Hinkie will officiate. Visitation will be at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment with Military Honors will be in South Blue Earth Lutheran Cemetery in Seely Township, Faribault County.
Robert Duane Holmseth was born on May 10, 1931, the son of Maynard and Josephine (Sabin) Holmseth on the farm in Seely Township, Faribault County. He attended Seely Township Country School and graduated from Frost High School in 1948. In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army; he received a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged in 1954. On March 19, 1955, Robert was united in marriage to Lorraine Knoll and they were divorced in 1984. He then married Donna Ackerman on Dec. 17, 1988, in Seely Township. He farmed all his life in the Bricelyn and Frost area. He was a member of the Nels Lee American Legion Post #165 for 50 years and served as Commander for four terms and county Commander for one year. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., and the Blue Earth VFW Post. Blackie cooked Bricelyn barbecued chicken and made Blo Polsa for many years. His hobbies were fishing and watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his wife Donna Holmseth of Bricelyn; son, Bob &uot;Butch&uot; Holmseth Jr. of Frost; daughter, Patti Williams and special friend Todd Johnson of Albert Lea; five step-children, Becky Tow of Aitkin, Don and wife Donna Ackerman of Blooming Prairie, Steve and wife Lisa Ackerman of Owatonna, Cathy Anderson of Frost, Amy Gilgenbach of Owatonna; five grandchildren; Jennifer and husband Layne McCleary of Lino Lakes, Delanie Collins of Edina, Nici Holmseth and special friend David Abel of St. Cloud, Holly Langfald and special friend Grant VanRyswk of Albert Lea, Amber and husband Chuck Anderson of Albert Lea; four great-grandchildren; Logan and Madeline McCleary, and Madisyn and Cadence Anderson; 20 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; one sister; Joanne and husband Paul Peterson of Blue Earth; one brother,
William and wife Jean Holmseth of Oshkosh, Wis.; one sister-in-law; Geri Holmseth of Hastings; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Merril Holmseth.
