The Tigers, seeded No. 6 in their section, traveled to third-seeded Marshall Tuesday and saw their dual-meet season end with a 5-2 setback.

&uot;It was a nice improvement from the first time we played them,&uot; said ALHS coach Sean Gillam. &uot;We showed a little bit of progress at different positions. Both teams played well.&uot;

Both Albert Lea wins were at doubles.

At No. 2, Elizabeth Thompson and Cara Thorn combined for a straight-set 6-2, 6-1 victory and, at No. 3, Kate Schreiber and Laura Hibbard swept 6-1, 6-4. Hali Hendrickson and Niki Hendrickson lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

The locals dropped all the singles matches in straight sets. The scores: No. 1, Dezeray Jacobs 6-0, 6-2; No. 2, Amanda Leonard 6-1, 6-0; No. 3, Brie Bangert 6-1, 6-2; No. 4, Nicole Greibrok 6-1, 6-0.

&uot;We made some good strides with a young team this year, but we still have a lot of work to do,&uot; said Gillam. &uot;We met some of our smaller goals this year, we didn’t meet others. It’s important to meet all the smaller goals if you want to get and stay in the upper echelon of the Big Nine.&uot;

The Tigers begin individual section tournament play Saturday, Oct. 16.
