Frederick W. Beiser, 83, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Frederick W. Beiser, age 83, of Albert Lea, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard Spande will officiate. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Freeborn County Servicemen’s Organization. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Frederick died on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center.

Frederick William Beiser was born on Sept. 29, 1921, in Kiester, the son of John and Rosa (Schwiede) Beiser. He spent his boyhood days there and attended rural school. Frederick was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kiester on Oct. 16, 1929 and was confirmed there on May 20, 1934. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1942 until May 1946. Frederick was injured during his service in the Philippine Islands and spent 15 months in military hospitals recuperating until his discharge in May 1946. After his discharge he went to agricultural school and bought his family’s farm in Kiester where he continued farming until 1964. The family then moved to Stewartville, where he was employed by Gopher Aviation and later First Banks. Frederick was united in marriage to Grace Kilen in 1948. She died in childbirth in 1949 along with his infant daughter. On Sept. 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Kathleen Budach in Albert Lea.

After his retirement he moved with his wife to Albert Lea in 1983. He had many interests and loved to &uot;putter and make things work.&uot; He was an avid reader, loved photography and cameras, he always maintained an interest in agriculture, trains, and railroads and the weather. He also loved music and musical instruments, &uot;mechanicking,&uot; hunting and shooting. Fred especially loved old time polka music, and he and his wife went to many dances and polka fests throughout their married life. He took up flying in mid-life, learned to play the concertina and other stringed instruments after 65 years of age. He loved a challenge!! He was an active Christian and took part in many church activities, serving on council, trustees and various church jobs throughout the years. He was also a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and also the VFW and DAV, the experimental Aircraft Association and various other sportsmen clubs. He enjoyed the mountains and loved traveling there and elsewhere including visiting relatives in Germany. He was also a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Albert Lea; daughter, Jeanine Leifeld and her children, Dreanna and Juliann; son-in-law, Dennis Wiegand and sons, Brian and John; sister, Mabel and husband Martin Scherb; and brother, William and wife Marvel Beiser.

Frederick was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Grace and infant daughter; and his daughter Cheryl in 1983.
