Minnesota No. 1 in college hockey

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &045; Victories over top-ranked Michigan and Michigan State in the College Hockey Showcase vaulted the Gophers into the No. 1 ranking in the U.S. College Hockey Online men’s poll.

The Gophers (10-3-0) received 36 of 40 first-place votes in the poll and moved up from No. 3. Boston College moved up two spots to No. 2. Colorado College, which plays host to the Gophers on Friday and Saturday, is No. 3.

Gophers goalie Kellen Briggs was selected WCHA co-defensive player of the week, and defenseman Alex Goligoski was named WCHA rookie of the week.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota women, (13-0-1) retained the No. 1 ranking in the USCHO women’s poll after beating Northeastern and Harvard in the Harvard Shootout over the weekend.
