Kathleen M. ‘Kacky’ Nelson, 81, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Kathleen M. Nelson, age 81, of Albert Lea, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Kathleen died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Kathleen M. &uot;Kacky&uot; Nelson was born July 18, 1923, to Edward H. and Frances L. (Sorensen) Kline in Austin. She attended school in Austin and Chicago before moving to Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1943. Kacky was a member of the Albert Lea High School Marching Band when they won the State Championship in 1939. After graduating from high school, she worked at American Gas during World War II. On Aug. 12, 1945, Kacky was united in marriage to Raymond E. Nelson in Albert Lea. She had been a cosmetician at Walgreen’s for 16 years and worked in various other sales positions. Kacky was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and active in the Church Librari-Anns and Bible Study Group, as well as assisting in the church office. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Women’s Bowling Association, and Green Lea Ladies’ League, and a former member of the VFW Auxiliary. Kacky loved knitting, bowling, playing golf, and photography.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond of Albert Lea; daughter, Sue and her husband Gary Hunnicutt of Geneva; son, Reed Nelson of Albert Lea; five grandchildren: Amy and her husband Alex Kromminga of Dover, Minn., Eric Hunnicutt of Albert Lea, Lisa and her husband Nick Vreeman of Rochester, Shawn Nelson of Winona, and Garrett Nelson of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren: Zack of Dover, and Alisha of Denver; and brother, Ray Kline of Faribault.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parentsm and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
