ORANGE CITY, Iowa &045; Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Reynen, an Albert Lea High School graduate, recently received her second varsity soccer letter for her contribution to the 2004 Northwestern soccer program.

According to head coach Tom Cliff, “Liz took advantage of a strong early season to establish herself as a consistent starter for Northwestern this past fall. She showed the ability to dominate games with her tenacious athletic skills and personality. An honorable mention all-conference pick, her teammates voted her co-captain for 2005.”

Reynen played in 16 games for the Raiders and was credited with 137 saves. She owned a save percentage of .846 and collected one shutout. Reynen was named the Team MVP for her outstanding efforts.

With an elevated level of play during the 2004 campaign, the Raider women’s soccer team narrowly missed a postseason conference tournament berth. A win in their last game would have solidified the opportunity, but NWC was stopped short by Doane.

Finishing the season with a 4-7 GPAC mark and an 8-10 overall record, the Raiders rebounded from a midseason slump to win four of their last six contests. Still a budding program, this past year’s squad had 13 freshmen on a 23-member roster.

Postseason all-conference recognition went to Kernes, a first team selection, and sophomore Krissy Hanson (Madrid, Iowa), freshman Jamise Retzlaff (South Beloit, 111.). Reynen and freshman Carrie Vander Horst (Grandville, Mich.) were honorable mention.
