Walter Thompson, 87, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Walter Thompson, 87, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at the Church.

Walter died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.

Walter Thompson was born Jan. 20, 1917, to Seivert and Susie Thompson in Albert Lea. He was a life-long resident of Albert Lea. Walter attended country school until the eighth grade when he quit to help take care for the family.

On Dec. 4, 1943, he was united in marriage to Aldene Jensen in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Walter was employed at Wilson & Co. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for more than 60 years and belonged to the Eagles.

Walter was a quiet man with a great sense of humor. He could fix anything and helped many family members and friends over the years.

Walter loved mowing his lawn and after his retirement mowed lawns for friends. He also was a &uot;delivery boy&uot; for Motor Inn, another job he loved.

Walter was a great dancer and he and Aldene spent many fun times with the Blue Banners. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Alice and her husband, Allan Holst of Austin; sons, Don Thompson of West St. Paul and John and his wife, Monica Jensen, of Galesburg, Ill.; grandchildren, Penny Haney, Mike Haney, Jeri Lynn Jensen, Jennifer Stoneking and Heather Thompson; great-grandson, Landon Sorenson; and sister, Janet Cornick, of Albuquerque, N.M.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Aldene; brothers, Ervin and Oscar; and sister, Josie.
