The Albert Lea B Bantams hockey team participated in the recent Paynesville/Richmond/Cold Spring tournament.
The locals finished a great weekend of hockey as consolation champions.
In the first game they lost to Grand Rapids/Greenway in a hard fought game that saw the Albert Lea Bantam team up 3-1 at one time only to lose while putting on tremendous pressure as time ran out. Scoring for Albert Lea were Jared Jensen assisted by Travis Hoyne, Chris Smith assisted by Tyler Haaland and Andrew Sabinish unassisted.
In the second game they fell behind 2-0 early to Grantsburg, Wis., and came back to score seven unanswered goals in the second and third period so take a 7-2 win. Goals were scored by Andrew Hertling with two, with Troy Seberson, Chris Smith, Andrew Sabinish, Adam Kirsch and Drew Passingham getting one each. Assists went to Seberson, Kirsch, Haaland, Hoyne, Zach Wichmann and Chris Karge.
In the consolation championship game the locals played a tough Litchfield team and went to the third overtime period before Hertling scored the winning goal with 1 minute left en route to a 1-0 victory.
Nick Bonciminio was in the net for all three games and played very well, according to coach Dick Herfindahl.
&uot; The team really came around that weekend and played some very good hockey,&uot; said Herfindahl, who added that the Albert Lea Moose Club has been a great sponsor for the B Bantams.
