Editorial: Moss may prove a more formidable foe

The Vikings have apparently suffered enough of Randy Moss’ ego. His agent announced his trade to the Oakland Raiders Wednesday. We say good riddance, with some reservations.

Thinking they could change his character &045; or at the very least his behavior &045; they signed him as a Viking seven years ago.

While he has more receiving yards than any other player in his seven-year tenure, the team has had PR issues resulting from his childish behavior throughout those years.

Perhaps the final straws were two recent incidents &045; Moss walked off the football field during a game, reportedly unhappy with the way the game was being played; and during the Green bay-Viking playoff game Jan. 9, in which Moss mock-mooned the fans in the end field after catching a touchdown pass.

The Vikings have certainly had their hands full trying to control the unpredictable antics of this football superstar. They have fined him more than $100,000 in an effort to hold him accountable, but apparently it wasn’t enough.

Unfortunately, Moss will probably prove a more formidable foe than he ever was an embarrassing ally. He gained 9,142 yards this season, despite missing a few games because of a hamstring injury. There’s no reason to believe he won’t continue to rack up the yardage.

The Vikings must plan to stop him as an opponent on the field. Hopefully, in that task they will be successful.
