Harold A. Lunning, 93, Alden

Harold A. Lunning, 93, of Alden, died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea from complications of emphysema and recently an aneurysm.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden with the Rev. Peter Soli officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Elmore.

Harold was born on Aug. 18, 1911, in Rake, Iowa, the son of Helmer and Anna (Midthun) Lunning.

On Feb. 23, 1936, he was married to Alice Loge at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. They farmed near Blue Earth, Rake, Elmore and Morris.

He served in the U.S. Navy on a &uot;Yard Freight&uot; in Leyte Harbor, Philippines. Due to emphysema they sold their farm and moved to Fridley in 1969. Harold worked at the University of Minnesota in maintenance at Williams Arena.

He loved meeting the sports stars. In 1979, they moved to Alden and he worked for Oak View Golf Course in Freeborn, the fertilizer plant and was a Wal-Mart greeter for six years.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and served as an usher for many years. Harold’s hobbies were playing cards, playing golf and he especially loved visiting with people. He enjoyed so much the gatherings of his family.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Alden; four children, Rochelle (husband Woody) Langsev of Bricelyn, Sonja (husband Stanley) Matheson of Alden, Gayle (wife Diane) Lunning of Lee Summit, Mo. and Lee Gordon of Maple Grove; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Marge Lunning, Margaret Haaland and Nelda Loge.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Maurice, Leslie, Alvin and Gustave Lunning; one sister, Alice Steiner and one grandson, Matthew Gordon.
