Jerald Edwin Hamor, 80, Minneapolis

Funeral services for Jerald Edwin Hamor, of Owatonna, will be held 3 p.m. today, Feb. 23, at the United Methodist Church in Geneva. The Rev. Gary Liker will officiate. Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel in Ellendale, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Steele County Veterans Group.

Mr. Hamor died Sunday morning,

Feb. 20, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 80 years of age.

Jerald was born May 5, 1924, in Redrock Township, Mower County, the son of Clair and Nellie (Funk) Hamor. He attended country school in Steele County. Jerald was united in marriage to Helen Lawson who preceded him in death. He was later united in marriage to Eleanor Cady.

Jerald was a resident of Steele and Freeborn Counties most of his life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Geneva. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.

Jerald was engaged in farming with his brother on the family farm for many years. He was also a contractor working independently and with John Sahf Construction of Owatonna.

Jerald was a member of the American Legion and in his free time enjoyed boating and fishing, hunting, camping, dancing and spending lots of time with his grandchildren.

Jerald is survived by his second wife, Eleanor, children:Carolyn and her husband Marlin Anderson of Clear Lake, Iowa, and James, Kevin and Luverne Hamor, all of Ellendale; Eleanor’s children: Sharon and husband James Juaire, Betty and husband Richard Anderson, Mike and wife Merle Peters, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; grandchildren: Michelle Balek, Matt Balek, Jeffery (Rochelle) Anderson, Cheryl (Troy) Wilkie, and Jeremy Hamor; great-grandchildren: Bryon and Brandon Balek, Niki and Dallas Anderson, Eathan and Chasten Wilkie; sisters: Bueta Thompson of Blooming Prairie, and Nellie (James) Sorenson of Wadena, Minn.; sister- in-law, Margaret Hamor of Albert Lea; and brother-in-law, Lowell Lawson of Myrtle.

Jerald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; son, Gerald Jr.; brothers: Roger and Gilbert Hamor; brothers-in-law: Albert Sweazey, Nathan Finn, and Charles Thompson; sister-in-law, Ruth Lawson; and daughters-in-law; Linda Hamor, Carol Hamor, and Catherine Hamor.
