Leona S. Scherb, 84, of Kiester

Leona S. Scherb, age 84, of Kiester, died Sunday, Feb. 20,

at Parkview Care Center in Wells.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester with the Rev. Dick Steffen officiating. Visitation will be held at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and one hour prior to services at church on Thursday. Interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Leona was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Foster Township, Faribault County, the daughter of Herman E. and Winona (Niebuhr) Nehring. She was confirmed on March 25, 1934 at First Lutheran Church in Wells (now Good Shepherd Lutheran) and attended school in District 25 at Rice Lake and Wells. On May 28, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ludwig C. Scherb in Wells. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the WELCA, and was the Cheer Person of Our Savior’s.

She also was a member of the Kiester Senior Citizens and enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and embroidery.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1981; one daughter Carol Ann; one brother, Clarence Nehring; and one sister, Adeline Shellen.

Survivors include one daughter, Janice (husband Connie) Engebretson of Kiester; two sons: Maurice (wife Kay) Scherb of Spencer, Iowa, and Glenn (wife Cindy) Scherb of Kiester; four grandchildren: Michael Scherb of Orlando, Fla., Meredith Scherb of Coralville, Iowa, and Molly and Jill Engebretson of Mankato;

and two sisters-in-law: June Scherb of Charles City, Iowa, and Harriet Nehring of Wells.
