Vern Lina Peterson, 88, Emmons

Funeral services for Vern L. Peterson, age 88, formerly of Emmons, will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at Lunder Lutheran Church. The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate. Interment will be in the Lunder Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Vern died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Vern Lina Peterson was born Dec. 29, 1916, to Harry and Jesse (Penrod) Towne in Albert Lea. She attended rural schools and worked as a housekeeper. On April 22, 1939, Vern was united in marriage to Donald E. Peterson in Glenville. The couple moved to Baudette where Vern was a cook at an area grade school. They moved back to Emmons in 1962. Vern worked at St. John’s for 21 years and was an active member of Lunder Lutheran Church. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Roger and his life friend Ann of Palm Desert, Calif.; daughters: Linda and her husband Merlin Hanson of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Donna and her husband Ben Jacobozzi of St. Joseph, Mich.; eight grandchildren: seven great-grandchildren; sister, Lauretta Gavle of St. John’s; and brothers: Wally Towne of Hartley, Iowa, and Earl and his wife Dorothy Towne of Twin Lakes.
Vern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and one sister.
